About me
We become who we are in the conversations we dare to have
"A good relationship isn’t about being perfect together — it’s about daring to examine the life you share."

My background
Who I am — and how I got here
My name is Camilla Vilstrup, and I help couples reconnect, understand their patterns and build a foundation strong enough for both everyday life and the big shifts.
My approach has grown out of two things that have followed me through my adult life: a wonder at how we humans live together, and a wish to do something concrete about what is difficult.
A special niche: expats and international couples
I lived abroad for several years myself, so I know from personal experience the particular challenges and opportunities that come with building a life and a relationship across cultures. In my previous practice, expats were a special niche: I worked with both couples and individuals with an international background. That is why I also offer couples therapy to expats and international couples in Denmark — in Danish or English.
The philosophical foundation
I hold a master’s degree in philosophy from the University of Copenhagen. It means I don’t withdraw when the conversation moves into the big existential questions a relationship always stirs up: What does loyalty actually mean to you? How much freedom do we need inside a love? What do we really want with this shared life? I help you notice the values you build your everyday on — and whether they still fit.
The concrete tools
So therapy doesn’t stay at the level of talk, I have trained through the Gottman Institute — one of the world’s best-documented methods for working with couples — and I am a certified couples therapist via PESI’s Couple Therapy Certification. It gives us a shared, concrete language for communication, conflict and the friendship underneath the love.
In short: with me you get a conversation that dares to go deep — but always lands in something concrete you can take home and use the same evening.
How I work
A safe, non-judgemental and active space
I believe modern couples therapy isn’t about finding someone to blame. It is about becoming curious together — about why you are where you are, and what needs to move. When you sit with me, we work from three principles:
- 01
Inquiry rather than judgement
We treat your conflicts as a shared puzzle we solve together — not a war someone has to win. I meet you both with openness, also when your stories sound different.
- 02
Evidence-based tools
We draw on the Gottman method’s concrete tools for communication, conflict and friendship — so you don’t just understand more, you also have something to act on.
- 03
Room for all of it
There is room for the small everyday frustrations (who empties the dishwasher?) and for the big questions of life (who have we become, and what do we want from the years ahead?).
